We are Elaine and Anthony, and we share our lives with our two whippets, Basil and Sansa.
Whippet Cottage grew from wanting a calm, comfortable space for dogs like Basil and Sansa - particularly those who are a little sensitive, or happiest somewhere quiet.
Although the cottage is completely private and self-contained, it sits alongside our own home. We briefly considered creating a more traditional holiday let, but it never felt quite right. It was more important to us that the space was used by people who would truly appreciate it - and who understand whippets.
Over time, it’s become something really special. We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming so many lovely whippets (and their owners), and it’s been a joy to see how quickly they settle in.
We keep things small and personal, with only a limited number of stays each year.
Why it works so well for whippets
Whippets are sensitive, gentle dogs, and they don’t always thrive in busy or unfamiliar environments.
The cottage has been set up with that in mind - calm spaces, a relaxed pace, and room for them to settle in their own time.
Just outside, there are enclosed areas where they can stretch their legs and enjoy a proper zoom in a safe, secure setting - something we know is important for both whippets and their owners.
Many settle almost immediately, and it’s always lovely to see them make themselves at home so quickly.
